Organisations, teams, and individuals have a preferred Strategy Style, but their overall approach is shaped by their dominant & secondary Strategy Style

Combination Styles

Blue/Green
  • BLUE & GREEN
  • A practical, logical approach to strategy, grounded in thorough analysis and emphasising concrete targets and action plans.
  • Can seem mechanical and uninspiring, failing to take account of people's needs and future possibilities.
Blue/Yellow
  • BLUE & YELLOW
  • A conceptual, rational approach to strategy, focusing on detailed analysis and emphasising future visions, goals and new ideas.
  • Can seem emotionally ‘intellectual’ and unrealistic, failing to drive clear action or engage people emotionally.
Blue/Red
  • BLUE & RED
  • A ‘stand-driver’ approach to strategy, seeking to balance clear fact-based decisions and goals with peoples’ needs, values and motivations.
  • Can seem adversarial, too debate driven, failing to clarify future direction or translate into short-term action.
Yellow/Red
  • YELLOW & RED
  • A creative, collaborative, approach to strategy, emphasising people, teams, their insights and ideas.
  • Can seem ‘soft’ and intangible, failing to translate into clear goals targets, and action plans.
Red/Green
  • RED & GREEN
  • A practical, collaborative approach to strategy, emphasising plans, accountabilities, teams, and values.
  • Can seem incremental, focused on progressing the ‘here and now,’ not creating exciting futures or new possibilities.
Yellow/Green
  • YELLOW & GREEN
  • An entrepreneurial approach to strategy, driven by big thinking & ideas, but emphasising practical, here-and-now action.
  • Can seem lacking in grounded analysis/facts and unresponsive to peoples’ concerns/views. Decisions can seem arbitrary and hard to understand.
Whole Minded
  • WHOLE-MINDED
  • An approach fusing all four Strategy Styles—practical, rational, creative, and collaborative—producing strategies that work from every angle.
  • Can seem tough to manage, but the pay-offs are significant!
