In the current economic environment it goes without saying that marketing budgets will continue to come under intense scrutiny. Most companies looking at marketing effectiveness--if at all--do so as a way of justifying the past. But this misses an enormous opportunity! The smartest companies approach marketing effectiveness not just as a quantitative measure of success, but as an opportunity to change the behaviour of the organisation: treating the marketing budget as an investment not a cost code, creating a culture of continuous improvement, and impacting both the planning & implementation cycle.

‘Challenge’ is a touchy subject and although most leaders don’t want to admit it, it is typically only included in conversations when things are going terribly wrong. Our recent SharpEDGE research confirms that effective ‘functional’ conflict leads to better strategic decisions and increased buy-in, so why do leaders only ask the tough questions when things are going wrong? How can challenge be incorporated throughout the strategy process as an ongoing, inclusive, and engaging activity?
